Independent Expertise for the Matters That Reach the Boardroom
See the whole picture. Strengthens what happens next.

Ahqenza is an independent advisory practice bringing together Board & Governance Advisory, Independent Reviews & Investigations, Leadership Development and Executive Facilitation.

Founded by Amna Zaidi FCA CMgr MCMI, Ahqenza draws on more than 20 years of executive, governance, transformation and regulatory experience working with Boards, Executive Teams and senior leaders across complex and regulated environments.

The Challenge May Begin in One Place. It Rarely Ends There.

A governance concern may expose a leadership problem. An investigation may reveal weaknesses in culture or accountability. A transformation under pressure may point to gaps in oversight, capability or decision-making.

Ahqenza brings complementary disciplines together in one independent practice. This allows us to look beyond the presenting issue, recognise connections that may otherwise be missed and understand what else may require attention.

Four Specialist Practices. One Connected
Perspective

Each practice can be engaged independently. Where an issue crosses boundaries, we bring together the relevant expertise to provide a more complete perspective.

Board & Governance Advisory

Strengthening governance, oversight, Board effectiveness and decision-making when the quality of judgement matters.

Best suited to: Boards, Chairs and Committees addressing governance concerns, significant decisions, effectiveness or external scrutiny.

Independent Reviews & Investigations

Establishing facts, examining sensitive matters and providing independent findings that stand up to scrutiny.

Best suited to: Situations where independence, evidential rigour and confidence in the process are critical.

Leadership Development

Developing the judgement, capability and leadership effectiveness required to lead through greater responsibility, complexity and change.

Best suited to: Organisations developing senior leadership capability during growth, change, transition or increased accountability.

Executive Facilitation

Helping Boards and Executive Teams address difficult issues, challenge assumptions, build alignment and make progress.

Best suited to: High-stakes discussions, competing perspectives, difficult relationships or decisions where an experienced independent facilitator can help.

Experience Behind the Practice

Ahqenza was founded by Amna Zaidi FCA CMgr MCMI, a Chartered Accountant and experienced auditor whose career spans more than two decades of executive leadership, transformation, governance, regulatory work and organisational change.

That experience matters because complex organisational issues are rarely purely about governance, people, process or performance. Understanding how these elements interact brings a different perspective to the questions being asked and the decisions that follow.

Who We Work With

Organisations Engage Ahqenza When...

The Board needs an objective perspective

A significant decision, governance concern or organisational issue requires independent judgement that is not shaped by internal interests.

A sensitive matter requires independent examination

The organisation needs a review, investigation or assessment that people can trust to be fair, rigorous and appropriately independent.

The challenge crosses organisational boundaries

Governance, leadership, culture, risk and performance are interacting and looking at one element in isolation may not reveal the whole issue.

Decisions will be scrutinised

The evidence needs to withstand challenge and the rationale behind a decision needs to be clear, credible and defensible.

Leadership has reached an impasse

Different perspectives, competing priorities or strained relationships are preventing progress and an independent facilitator can help move the conversation forward.

The stakes justify an external perspective

The issue is sufficiently important, sensitive or complex that those responsible want experienced independent judgement before reaching a decision.

How We Work

Start with the issue. Establish what matters.

Every engagement begins with understanding the situation, its context and what those responsible need to establish, strengthen, resolve or achieve. The scope is shaped around what matters and what the engagement needs to accomplish.

Depending on the assignment, this may include stakeholder interviews, document and evidence review, Board or leadership observation, independent analysis, leadership assessment and development, facilitated discussions, workshops or a combination of approaches.

We work directly with senior stakeholders, maintain appropriate independence and communicate clearly throughout.

Our role is to bring experienced judgement, constructive challenge and practical insight to the work, whether establishing findings, strengthening governance or leadership capability, or facilitating the discussions and decisions that help organisations make progress.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should a Board seek independent external advice?

Independent advice can be valuable when the issue is significant, sensitive or difficult to assess objectively from within the organisation. This may include a governance concern, a difficult Board or leadership issue, an independent review, a significant transformation or a decision likely to face external scrutiny.

Ahqenza provides an experienced external perspective where those responsible want greater clarity, constructive challenge or additional confidence before reaching a decision.

Yes. Ahqenza can work directly with Chairs, Boards and Board Committees, as well as CEOs, Executive Teams and other senior leaders.

The appropriate commissioning and reporting arrangements are agreed at the outset, taking account of the nature of the assignment, governance responsibilities and the level of independence required.

Independence begins with clarity about who has commissioned the work, its purpose, scope and reporting arrangements.

We establish these parameters at the outset, consider any actual or potential conflicts, and approach the evidence without predetermined conclusions. Findings are based on what can be established and supported, including where those findings may be difficult or unexpected.

For sensitive matters, confidentiality, fairness and appropriate handling of information are considered throughout the engagement.

Yes. This is an important part of the Ahqenza model.

An issue that begins as a governance concern may expose a leadership or cultural problem. An independent review may identify wider questions about accountability, decision-making or organisational capability.

Our four practice areas can be commissioned independently or combined where the circumstances require a broader perspective. The scope remains proportionate to the issue rather than expanding simply because additional capability is available.

Yes. Ahqenza can work independently or alongside existing legal counsel, HR teams, auditors, consultants and other specialist advisers.

We are clear about our remit and respective responsibilities, particularly where matters involve legal privilege, regulatory considerations or specialist professional advice outside our scope.

Our role is to complement existing expertise rather than duplicate it.

Yes. Ahqenza works with organisations operating in regulated and complex environments, where governance, accountability, evidence and the quality of decision-making carry particular importance.

Our experience spans executive leadership, governance, audit, transformation, regulatory matters, independent review and organisational change.

Where an engagement requires specific legal, regulatory or technical advice, we work within the agreed scope and alongside the appropriate specialist advisers.

Ahqenza is based in London and works with Boards, Executive Teams and organisations across the UK and internationally.

Engagements can be delivered in person, remotely or through a combination of both, depending on the nature and sensitivity of the work.

For Board meetings, investigations, executive facilitation and other assignments where being in the room matters, we agree the most appropriate approach with the client.

The first conversation is an opportunity to understand the situation, why it has arisen and what you may need from an independent adviser.

You do not need to have defined the engagement before contacting us. We will consider the issue with you, identify any immediate questions around independence or scope, and determine whether Ahqenza is the right fit.

Where appropriate, we will then propose a clear scope, approach and reporting arrangement before any substantive work begins. All enquiries are treated in confidence.
